Treating Poverty: A Workshop for Family Physicians Poverty represents a significant and reversible risk factor for poor health. This half-day workshop is offered to family physicians practising in Ontario, with the goal of teaching a simple three-step approach to intervening in patients' poverty through the development of relevant clinical skills and a deeper understanding of the federal and provincial income security systems and related resources. In this interactive workshop, participants will develop, analyze and put into practice an approach to income security benefits-based interventions into poverty as a risk to the health of individual family practice patients.

Women's Gynecological Health: Skills Transfer Workshop: Office Gynecological Procedures in Family Medicine This workshop will briefly review an updated approach to the diagnosis and management of five benign uterine conditions (fibroids, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis, chronic pelvic pain and pelvic organ prolapse). Using state-of-the-art models, participants will learn techniques for performing endometrial biopsies; inserting the levonorgestrel IUS; and fitting, inserting and caring for pessaries. This is a hands-on, interactive workshop.

Third Trimester Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS-OB) Course was designed for rural physicians who provide maternity care. Participants in the course dramatically improve their management of patients in the third trimester through a series of mini-lectures and hands-on ultrasound sessions with third trimester patients. Applications taught: fetal presentation, fetal cardiac activity, placenta location, amniotic fluid index (AFI), multiples.

Women's Gynecological Health: Intrauterine Contraception: Theory to Practice The advanced BUC workshop focuses on intra-uterine contraception, specifically the indications and hands-on insertion of copper IUDs (Nova T, Liberte, Flexi T and Mona Lisa) and Progesterone-containing IUS (Mirena, and the new Jaydess). Using state-of the-art models, practicing family physicians taking part in this workshop, will review up-to-date information about these methods of contraception and practice insertion of these IUDs and troubleshooting challenges.

The Shock Course The Shock Course was designed specifically for rural emergency healthcare teams. Its mandate is to equip rural healthcare practitioners with the skills necessary to diagnose and treat the hemodynamically unstable patient in the rural ER. Hands-on training: using point-of-care ultrasound for shock diagnosis (FAST exam, RUSH protocol), and practice in procedures such as CV catheter insertion, ultrasound-guided central lines, peripheral lines and intraosseous needle placement on mannequins. Son utilisation est devenue la norme dans les grands centres de traumatologie, les régions éloignées et dans les unités de combat des Forces canadiennes. Le cours est unique en ce qu'il a continuellement évolué au fur et á mesure que l'équipe d'instructeurs ont compris de mieux en mieux comment le débutants développent leurs habiletés. De nombreuses techniques ont été développées pour aider l'apprenant à acquérir une compréhension de base de l'échographie, et de la génération et l'interprétation des images. Ceci rend le cours ÉDU le véhicule d'enseignement le plus efficace pour cette modalité. McGill Ultrasound Evaluation Program The MUSE program (McGill Ultrasound Evaluation program) Bedside Ultrasound for Primary Care Clinicians course aims to improve the bedside ultrasound skills of primary care providers through a modular, problem- based approach. The course takes place over two days (April 13th and 14th , 2015) at the McGill University Arnold and Blema Steinberg Medical Simulation Centre. Participants will practice scanning standardized patients in a supervised setting. Registration is limited to 20 participants.
