Fellowship Award
The Fellowship of Rural and Remote Medicine of the SRPC (FRRMS) is a new award given for the first time in 2009. It is designed to recognize expertise in the practice of rural medicine in Canada. Recipients must have served rural Canada for at least 10 years and be long-standing members of SRPC. They must be previous recipients of the RSA, and also must meet specified criteria in the areas of CME, teaching, committee work, designated practice type, skills and rurality. These activities generate points and when the threshold is reached the physician is nominated by the SRPC for the FRRMS. The nominee must attend R&R to receive the award.
Keith Award
The Keith Award, a Brief History
This is the first award established by the SRPC, and is given to recognize medical schools which produce a significant number of practicing rural physicians. Although tracking the practice locations of Canadian graduates is imprecise, the award this year goes to the program which has the most graduates practicing in a rural area designated by Canadian postal code 10 years after graduation.

Rural Service Award
In 2002, the tenth year of The Society of Rural Physicians' work to improve rural health, inaugurated the Rural Service Award to provide recognition for physicians who have done solid work in rural communities over the years.
At the occasion of the annual Rural and Remote Medicine Course in Kelowna we presented 64 of these awards to doctors who have served their rural communities for between 10 years and 34 years of service, providing outstanding work, often in challenging circumstances.
The SRPC encourages members to apply or nominate others. The applications form are distributed with the announcement of the upcoming Rural and Remote conference.
